Solution:

Breast augmentation, or augmentation mammaplasty, enlarges a woman’s breasts through the surgical placement of breast implants thereby increasing the fullness and projection of the breasts. Breast implants add symmetry and balance to a woman’s figure. Your consultation with Kagan Plastic Surgery can determine implant placement, type (saline or silicone) and size based on your breast anatomy, body type and desired increase in size.

Under a general anesthesia, incisions are made to create a pocket either directly behind the breast tissue (submammary / subglandular placement) or beneath the pectoral muscle and on top of the chest wall (submuscular placement). The most common incisions include inframammary (near crease under breast), an auxillary incision (in the underarm area) or a periareolar incision around the edge of the areola. The results of breast augmentation are immediately visible. Over time post-surgical swelling with diminish and incisions will refine.

Although considered a cosmetic procedure, breast implants may also be used for reconstructive purposes to restore a breast that is lost due to mastectomy, injury or other reasons. In the case of sagging breasts (ptosis), a breast lift (mastopexy) may be performed in conjunction with breast augmentation.
