Problem:

  • Lack of masculine contour to chest
  • Gynecomastia: abnormally large breasts in men
  • Overdeveloped or enlarged male breasts caused by hormonal changes, heredity, disease or use of certain drugs
  • Embarassed by large male breasts

Solution:

Male breast reduction (reduction mammaplasty) reduces breast size, flattens and enhances the chest contours in men suffering from gynecomastia. In the case where the skin has stretched the areola (the dark skin surrounding the nipple), the position and size of the areola can be surgically improved as well.

If gynecomastia is primarily caused by excess fat deposits, liposuction treatments may only be needed. Small incisions are made at the perimeter of the areola, the natural contours of the chest or the underarm area. A cannula is inserted to suction excess fat deposits. Gynecomastia may also be treated by excision (the surgical removal of excess fat, glandular breast tissue and sometimes skin). In some cases, both procedures may be used. The resolution of gynecamastia may be considered reconstructive and covered by some insurance carriers, a consultation with Dr. Kagan can assist with a proper diagnosis.

Result:

  • Reduce breast fullness
  • Achieve a more masculine chest contour
